Do u Know?

Do u Know? - Four Quadrants.

Have you ever wondered why some people work less, earn more, pay less in taxes and feel more financially secure then others?

It is simply a matter of knowing which quadrant to work in and understanding the difference between an employee and business owner.

Why is it that in the industrial age most parents wanted their children to become medical doctors, accountants,lawyers...and why in the information age these professions are under financial attack?

Understanding this in theory is one thing the question is: How do you change from being an employee to an business owner?

If you are open to moving beyond your secure job and ready to make deep professional and financial changes and wanting to move from the Industrial Age to the Information Age... go through my article Rich Dad Poor Dad - From Robert K

Motivational Stories - THE 4 WIVES

Motivational Stories - THE 4 WIVES

There was a rich merchant who had 4 wives. He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to delicacies. He took great care of her and gave her nothing but the best.

He also loved the 3rd wife very much. He's very proud of her and always wanted to show off her to his friends. However, the merchant is always in great fear that she might run away with some other men.

He too, loved his 2nd wife. She is a very considerate person, always patient and in fact is the merchant's confidante. Whenever the merchant faced some problems, he always turned to his 2nd wife and she would always help him out and tide him through difficult times.

Now, the merchant's 1st wife is a very loyal partner and has made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and business as well as taking care of the household. However, the merchant did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.

One day, the merchant fell ill. Before long, he knew that he was going to die soon. He thought of his luxurious life and told himself, "Now I have 4 wives with me. But when I die, I'll be alone. How lonely I'll be!"

Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I loved you most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No way!" replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word.

The answer cut like a sharp knife right into the merchant's heart. The sad merchant then asked the 3rd wife, "I have loved you so much for all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No!" replied the 3rd wife. "Life is so good over here! I'm going to remarry when you die!" The merchant's heart sank and turned cold.

He then asked the 2nd wife, "I always turned to you for help and you've always helped me out. Now I need your help again. When I die, will you follow me and keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!" replied the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only send you to your grave." The answer came like a bolt of thunder and the merchant was devastated.

Then a voice called out : "I'll leave with you. I'll follow you no matter where you go." The merchant looked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, almost like she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the merchant said, "I should have taken much better care of you while I could have !"

Actually, we all have 4 wives in our lives

a. The 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it'll leave us when we die.

b. Our 3rd wife ? Our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, they all go to others.

c. The 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how close they had been there for us when we're alive, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.

d. The 1st wife is in fact our soul, often neglected in our pursuit of material, wealth and sensual pleasure.

Guess what? It is actually the only thing that follows us wherever we go. Perhaps it's a good idea to cultivate and strengthen it now rather than to wait until we're on our deathbed to lament

Four Quadrant of Income Group

One of the early eye openers for me is about this book of the famous author Robert Kiyosaki entitled Rich Dad Poor Dad. In this book, Robert Kiyosaki had two dads, one is his biological dad tagged as "poor dad" and one is his friend's dad tagged as "rich dad." Both dads taught Robert Kiyosaki how to reach his financial goals and achieve success but with different approaches.

His poor dad spent so much time in school earning him a doctorate degree landing on a high paying job but ended with a lot of bills left unpaid  while his rich dad did not finish school but ended up owning a business empire. How did this happen? Just look at the contrasting ideas each dad have:

His poor dad says: "I CAN'T AFFORD IT!" while his rich dad says: "HOW CAN I AFFORD IT?"

His poor dad says: "MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL!" while his rich dad says: "LACK OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL!"

By viewing these two contrasting ideas, his poor dad's brain stopped working when he said those, killing his initiative and promoting negativity while his rich dad's brain kept on thinking on ways creating initiative and promoting optimism. Which one is best? Of course, undeniably, it's rich dad's ideas!

Robert Kiyosaki continued and coined the term RAT RACE. This is the race of our lifetime INCOME and SPEND. We receive our income regularly from our paychecks yet we spend the same to pay bills and satisfy our wants. We are now trapped in this rat race. We live our lives to pay our everyday bills! Now, how can we escape from this rat race trap? By understanding the Cashflow Quadrant.

This is understanding where our income flows. It was divided into two main sections. The left side called "Active Income" and right side called "Passive Income." What's the difference? Active Income says "You Work For Money" while Passive Income says "Money Works For You."

It is then further subdivided into four quadrants. Quadrant 1 is the so-called Employees. Quadrant 2 is the so-called Self-Employed. Qudrant 3 is the so-called Big Business Owners. Quadrant 4 is the so-called Investors. Where do you belong to these four quadrants? Let's examine it one by one:

Quadrant 1 - EMPLOYEES. I do think that most of us belongs here. We have a job. We have to work hard, follow instructions from our bosses and superiors and get paid. We don't own our time. These are people who love security or tenure. They will work hard to climb up the corporate ladder. The higher they climbed the ladder, the higher they pay is. Sad to say, the higher their pay is, the higher also their taxes. And it's not them getting rich, it's their bosses, it's their company. Time will come, they will get tired. Their body will collapse because of age. And when they stopped working, they will also stop receiving income.

Quadrant 2 - SELF EMPLOYED - They work for themselves. The difference with the employees is that self-employed own their time since they don't have superiors. They can decide for themselves. These are people who loves to be independent. They don't want to work for others, instead they want to work for themselves. These are doctors, lawyers, and small business owners. But still, they are an employee of themselves. And if they stopped working, they will also stop receiving income.

Quadrant 3 - BIG BUSINESS OWNERS - They love delegating tasks. They concentrate their efforts more on activities which produces most profits. They hire people who are more intelligent than them to do the work for them. They have built a solid system and they own it. They have built their resources to make this possible. And so they can leave for vacation and can leave work for some time but still earns money because there were people working for them. Examples of this are the taipans and tycoons and some franchisers who have built a solid business.

Quadrant 4 - INVESTORS - These are people who have built their assets and are not working for money anymore. Instead, the assets they have accumulated works for them providing them constant income even if they don't work. These are people who are called "living on interests". They are living thru the interests of their assets and investments. Money works for them. They have invested their money to have more money. They can differentiate which one is an asset and which one is a liability. Examples of these are investors in the stock market, real estate, etc.

Did you see the difference? The only way to escape from the rat race is by travelling from active income to passive income, from employee or self-employed to becoming a big business owner or investor. And this is the challenge that Robert Kiyosaki left to us readers.

As a final note, I'm leaving this quote from Mr. Kiyosaki.

"The rich buy assets. The poor only have expenses. The middle class buys liabilities they think are assets. The poor and the middle class work for money. The rich have money work for them."

Building a Pipeline to Wealth

Building a Pipeline to Wealth:

The Cashflow Quadrant
by Robert Kiyosaki

Each of us resides in at least one of the four Quadrants of the CASHFLOW Quadrant™.

Where we are is determined by where our main source of income comes from. Many of us rely on paychecks and are therefore employees, while others are self-employed.

Employees and self-employed individuals reside on the left side of the CASHFLOW Quadrant™. The right side of the CASHFLOW Quadrant™ is for individuals who receive their cash from businesses or investments they own.

Robert Kiyosaki is saying that his Rich Dad told him a simple story when he was 12 years old that has guided him to great wealth and financial freedom. It was Rich Dad's way of explaining the difference between the left side of the CASHFLOW Quadrant™, the 'E' and 'S' Quadrants™, from the right side of the 'B' and 'I' Quadrants™.

Once upon a time there was this quaint little village. It was a great place to live except for one problem. The village had no water unless it rained.

To solve this problem once and for all, the village elders decided to put out to bid the contract to have water delivered to the village on a daily basis.

Two people volunteered to take on the task and the elders awarded the contract to both of them. They felt that a little competition would keep prices low and ensure a backup supply of water.

Self-Employed Thinking

The first of the two people, Ed, immediately ran out, bought two galvanized steel buckets and began running back and forth along the trail to the lake which was a mile away.

He immediately began making money as he labored morning to dusk hauling water from the lake with his two buckets. He would empty them into the large concrete holding tank the village had built.

Each morning he had to get up before the rest of the village awoke to make sure there was enough water for the village when it wanted it. It was hard work, but he was very happy to be making money and for having one of the two exclusive contracts for this business.

Business Owner Thinking

The second winning contractor, Bill, disappeared for a while. He was not seen for months, which made Ed very happy since he had no competition. Ed was making all the money.

Instead of buying two buckets to compete with Ed, Bill had written a business plan, created a corporation, found four investors, employed a president to do the work, and returned six months later with a construction crew.

Within a year his team had built a large volume stainless steel pipeline, which connected the village to the lake.

At the grand opening celebration, Bill announced that his water was cleaner than Ed's water. Bill knew that there had been complaints about dirt in Ed's water.

Bill also announced that he could supply the village with water 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Ed could only deliver water on the weekdays. He did not work on weekends.

Then Bill announced that he would charge 75% less than Ed did for this higher quality and more reliable source of water. The village cheered and ran immediately for the faucet at the end of Bill's pipeline.

In order to compete, Ed immediately lowered his rates by 75%, bought two more buckets, added covers to his buckets, and began hauling four buckets each trip. In order to provide better service, he hired his two sons to give him a hand for the night shift and on weekends.

When his boys went off to college, he said to them, "Hurry back because someday this business will belong to you." For some reason, after college, his two sons never returned. Eventually Ed had employees and union problems. The union was demanding higher wages, better benefits, and wanted its members to only haul one bucket at a time.

Work Smarter, Not Harder

Bill, on the other hand, realized that if this village needed water, then other villages must need water too. He rewrote his business plan and went off to sell his high speed, high volume, and low cost, clean water delivery system to villages throughout the world.

He only makes a penny per bucket of water delivered, but he delivers billions of buckets of water, and all that money pours into his bank account. Bill had developed a pipeline to deliver money to himself as well as water to the villages.

Bill lived happily ever after, and Ed worked hard for the rest of his life and had financial problems forever after. The end.

That story about Bill and Ed has guided me for years. It has assisted me in my life's decision-making process. I often ask myself, "Am I building a pipeline or hauling buckets?" Am I working hard or am I working smart?"

And the answers to those questions have made me financially free.

The CASHFLOW Quadrant™ is about the four different types of people who make up the world of business, who they are, and what makes individuals in each Quadrant unique.

It will help you define where you are in the Quadrant today and help you chart a course for where you want to be in the future as you choose your own path to financial freedom.

While financial freedom can be found in all four of the Quadrants, the skills of a 'B' or 'I' will help you reach your financial goals more quickly. A successful 'E' should also become a successful 'I'.

Understanding this in theory is one thing the question is: How do you change from being an employee to an business owner?

Have you ever wondered why some people work less, earn more, pay less in taxes and feel more financially secure then others?

It is simply a matter of knowing which quadrant to work in and understanding the difference between an employee and business owner.

And The First Impression is....

First impressions aren't everything, but they do count for a lot. This applies more than to just people and how you view them or how they view you, but also to other opportunities in life.

When you walk into a room, perhaps to meet a friend of a friend, you see the person from across the room and as you get closer your opinion is already forming. By the time you extend your hand to shake theirs, you already know and have made your choice whether or not you are going to like them, and what chance and opportunity are you going to give them to get closer to you. Will you let the relationship start off on the right foot or the wrong one, and will you ever get past that first impression? Often we just look for the first opportunity to get away from that person and situation and move onto someone we determined a long time ago, that we would like.

This is the appeal then of this brief article, as it seeks for thought and consideration. Human nature dictates that we will form these first impression opinions as a matter of habit and instinct, which is normal. This proposal is not one about changing human nature but rather fighting the gut instinct that tells you to run based on that impression. Act in a way contrary to what your first impression grants and truly give someone a chance that you would otherwise not have. Don't shut them out immediately based on a first impression. Look with insight and consideration at the opportunities that knock on your door in life, because you might just possibly end up letting something great pass you by. Once you grasp this concept, apply this philosophy and approach to other opportunities that may arise in your life.

Just ponder some of the people you already know really well and some of the opportunities that you have pursued in life. I think with some reflection you may discover that some of these people and opportunities are from situations where perhaps a first impression told you to ignore this person or opportunity. Don't let this happen to any possible friendship or opportunity in your life. How different would your life be for the worse if you had listened to that instinct? Look beyond a first impression and more likely than not, you will see that something truly great lies waiting for you to see it more clearly.

From Rajeev Kumar

Do you have Leader Within You!

The leader of the pack is an expression thrown around quite often or perhaps heard in song. But what does this phrase really mean in terms of human experience, and is this something that can really happen for someone? The leader of the pack is basically someone who can seize every opportunity in life and do something with it. When an opportunity presents itself, the leader would not shy away from it due to lack of courage, a fear, or some uncertainty.

Now with that in mind, the leader would not trade wisdom for poor judgment. There is a difference and quite frankly it is a notable one. Great opportunities are certainly distinguishable from the bad ones, but the leader knows this and acts upon instinct. The actions and risks taken build the leader even stronger and more capable of handling large challenges and obstacles. The leader learns, grows, and evolves.

The leader also has a sense of self-worth and pride. Their value is known within themselves and they understand what they are truly capable of accomplishing in life. With this dignity and self-respect, must come a mutual respect for others as well. People's dreams, ambitions, and desires can differ greatly. Therefore, just because the leader knows their own significance, this should not be a reason to look down upon others or treat others with disrespect. Ultimately if the leader cannot respect others, then they will never capable of respecting themselves.

So are you currently a leader? Do you have the abilities and drive to stand apart and to become stronger? Can you treat yourself and others in a way that shows you value yourself and mutually respect people? Are you able to recognize good opportunities and really pursue them? Only you can make that determination and choice. Do you want to be the leader? Is it within you? You make the decision and lead the way.

Discover Your Calling

Discover Your Calling

When I was growing up, my father said something to me I will never forget, "Son, when you were born, you cried while the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a way that when you die the world cries while you rejoice." We live in an age when we have forgotten what life is all about.

We can easily put a person on the Moon, but we have trouble walking across the street to meet a new neighbor. We can fire a missile across the world with pinpoint accuracy, but we have trouble keeping a date with our children to go to the library. We have e-mail, fax machines and digital phones so that we can stay connected and yet we live in a time where human beings have never been less connected. We have lost touch with our humanity. We have lost touch with our purpose. We have lost sight of the things that matter the most.

How many lives will you touch while you have the privilege to walk this planet?

What impact will your life have on the generations that follow you? And what legacy will you leave behind after you have taken your last breath? One of the lessons I have learned in my own life is that if you don't act on life, life has a habit of acting on you. The days slip into weeks, the weeks slip into months and the months slip into years. Pretty soon it's all over and you are left with nothing more than a heart filled with regret over a life half lived.

George Bernard Shaw was asked on his deathbed, "What would you do if you could live your life over again?" He reflected, then replied with a deep sigh: "I'd like to be the person I could have been but never was.

As a professional speaker, I spend much of my work life delivering keynote addresses at conferences across Gujarat, flying from city to city, sharing my insights on leadership in business and in life with many different people. Though they all come from diverse walks of life, their questions invariably center on the same things these days: How can I find greater meaning in my life?

How can I make a lasting contribution through my work? and How can I simplify so that I can enjoy the journey of life before it is too late?

My answer always begins the same way: Find your calling. I believe we all have special talents that are just waiting to be engaged in a worthy pursuit. We are all here for some unique purpose, some noble objective that will allow us to manifest our highest human potential while we, at the same time, add value to the lives around us. Finding your calling doesn't mean you must leave the job you now have. It simply means you need to bring more of yourself into your work and focus on the things you do best. It means you have to stop waiting for other people to make the changes you desire and, as Mahatma Gandhi noted: "Be the change that you wish to see most in your world." And once you do, your life will change.

8 Steps to Charismatic Leadership

8 Steps to Charismatic Leadership

DEFINING LEADERSHIP

When we think of successful leaders we often think of businessmen and political figures that are in the news. In your own field, you can probably name a handful of men and women who are successful leaders - people with vision and the ability to communicate that vision in order to inspire others. Leadership is defined by your own personality and level of response-ability. Successful leaders are able to define their goals, persuade others to join them in achieving that goal, and lead their teams to success. But what would you say is the definition of leadership?

LEADERSHIP INVOLVES MORE THAN ONE PERSON

There is no single definition of leadership. Understanding the different facets of leadership is the first step toward becoming an effective leader. Some common traits of successful and effective leaders include:

  • A leader is the appointed head of a group, team or organization.
  • A leader is a charismatic individual who is ableto make good decisions and inspire others to work toward a common goal.
  • A leader has the power to communicate clearly and assertively.
  • A leader has the ability to influence others in a positive way.

No single definition is more "right" or more important than any of the others. Leadership is defined by your own personality and level of response-ability, that is, your ability to respond to people and events in a manner that leads to a successful communication or resolution. One thing that all of the definitions have in common, however, is that successful leadership involves more than one person.

TRUST MAKES YOU A LEADER

One cannot be a leader without a group of people following your direction and putting their trust in you. As a leader you have a responsibility to your employees, group, organization or team tolead them fairly and ethically. Having a title such as "Boss", "Manager" or "Director" does not automatically confer upon you the abilities of a leader. To be a successful leader, you will need to constantly hone your skills by keeping up with the latest practices and by observing other successful leaders - both in your organization and in the news. You also need to have the humility to know that your own style of leadership will change as you gain experience and broaden your horizons.

THE QUALITIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL LEADER

As we discussed above, a leader is someone who inspires, who makes decisions that affect the group in a positive way, and who can pull together a team with diverse skill sets to achieve a common goal. But if being a manager does not make one a leader, what does? Charisma is a quality that many people use to describe a successful leader, and it is often mistaken as a quality that one is born with. However, the true answer is deeper than that - and you can develop a charismatic leadership style if you develop the following fundamental skills:

  1. Knowledge - Know your stuff. A successful leader must know the details of the business in order to direct the team toward the organization's goals.
  2. Trust - If you want something done right, train someone how to do it and put them in charge of it. Then let them go. Don't micromanage your team. If you have trained them properly, they will do the right thing.
  3. Integrity - An organization will soon learn to work around a "leader" who is not trustworthy or does not keep their word.
  4. Decisiveness - A leader is valued for their ability to make a decision, especially in high-pressure situations. Combining Knowledge and Integrity are essential to being able to make the correct decision.
  5. Assertiveness - Leaders are often chosen or appointed to direct a team, group, or organization. A successful leader understands that they represent the interests of the team members as well as the macro-interests of the entire team, and that leader will stand up for the members who have put their trust in their leader.
  6. Optimism - Be realistic but confident. Your employees and your own leaders will lose faith and confidence in you if your attitude is pessimistic or negative. As a leader it is your job to manage less-than-perfect situations and turn them around. Figure it out and concentrate on the positive aspects.
  7. Results - Keep track of the solid decisions and successful outcomes that you have been responsible for. This record is something you can point to when a leadership opportunity comes your way, as well as something that you can look at to build or restore your own confidence in the tough times.
  8. Vision - As a leader you are expected to set goals that guide your team or organization in a specefic direction, the "preferred future". You must be able to think broadly and make strategic actions part of your daily routine. This will help your team to grow in the right direction for success.

WHAT IS YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE?

What do you think? Is charisma something that you are born with - or is it a quality that you can develop? Leave a comment, start a discussion.

From Imagination To Reality - Attracting Success With Mind Power

From Imagination To Reality - Attracting Success With Mind Power

Creative visualization is a mental technique that uses the imagination to make dreams come true. Used in the right way, creative visualization can improve our life and attract success and prosperity. It is a power that can alter our environment and circumstances, cause events to happen, and attract money, possessions, work, people and love into our life. Creative visualization uses the power of the mind, and is the power behind every success.

Creative Visualization

By visualizing a certain event or a situation, or an object, such as a car, a house, furniture etc, we attract it into our life. It is a process that is similar to daydreaming. For some people it might look like magic, but there is no magic involved, only the natural process of the power of thoughts and natural mental laws. It is like having a genie at your disposal!

There are people who use this technique naturally in their everyday affairs, not being aware that they are using some sort of power. All successful people use it consciously or unconsciously, attracting the success they want into their life, by visualizing their goals as already accomplished.

Creative Visualization and the Power of Thoughts

How does it work and why? Thoughts, if powerful enough, are accepted by our subconscious mind, which then changes our mindset accordingly, as well as our habits and actions, and this brings us into contact with new people, situations and circumstances.

Thought is a creative stuff that molds our life and attracts similar stuff into our life. Thoughts also travel from one mind to another, and if they are strong enough, they can be unconsciously picked up by people, who are in a position to help us materialize our desires and goals.

We are part of the Omnipotent Power that has created the universe, and we therefore we participate in the process of creation. Bearing this thought in mind, there is no wonder that thoughts materialize. Stop for a moment and think - You are an indivisible part of the great Universal Power! This means that your thoughts can come true! Not all thoughts of course, but those that are concentrated, well-defined, and often-repeated often.

Thought is energy, especially a concentrated thought laden with emotional energy. Thoughts change the balance of energy around us, and bring changes to the environment in accordance with them.

There is another explanation why visualization brings results. It may come as a surprise to most, but the theory of "Maya" - Illusion, which comes from the eastern philosophies, provides the explanation.

According to the Indian philosophy "Advaita- Vedanta", which is called "Nonduality" in the West, the world is not real, but only an illusion, created by our thoughts. Since most people think and repeat the same or similar thoughts often, focusing their mind and thoughts on their current environment, they create and recreate the same sort of events or circumstances. This process preserves the same "world" and status quo. It is like watching the same film over and over again, but we can change the film by changing our thoughts and visualize different circumstances and life, and in this way create a different "reality". For us it is a reality, though in fact it is just a dream we call "reality".

By changing our thoughts and mental images we change our "Reality"; we change the "illusory" world we believe we live in. We are not employing magic or supernatural powers when creating and changing our life and circumstances. It is not something "Material" that we change; we only change our thoughts, which shape our world.

All this is like dreaming a very realistic dream, and then changing the dream. We are not awakening from the dream, just changing the dream.

So why not change your dreams to something more satisfying?

If you live in small apartment and need a larger one, instead of brooding about your fate and lack of money, change your thoughts and visualize and believe that you are living in a bigger apartment.

Overcoming Limited Thinking

Creative visualization can do great things, but for every person there are some areas, which he or she might find hard to change, at least in the immediate future. The power of visualization is a mighty power, but there are some limits to using it. These limits are within us, not in the power.

We often limit ourselves and cannot look beyond a limited circle. We limit ourselves by our thoughts and beliefs. The more open-minded we can be, and the more big we dare ti think, the greater are our opportunities and possibilities. Limitations are within our minds, and it is up to us to rise above them.

It may take some time until things start to change. Simple, small demonstrations of this power may come fast, but bigger results may need a longer time to happen.

The time and effort put forth in this study are really worthwhile. Have faith and patience and results will start appearing.

An Example of Creative Visualization

Years ago, before I got married, I decided to visualize having a date. I imagined myself sitting in a restaurant and talking with a girl. I concentrated on this image several times during the day, several minutes each time.

The next day, a girl working in the same place where I worked, asked me if I could come to her desk. I hardly ever spoke with her, maybe just saying good morning. I went to her desk and she asked me whether I had a girl friend. When she heard that I did not have one, she proposed to introduce me to one of her friends, and then gave me her phone number.

When I got home I called the girl, and asked her to meet me. We met on the same day in a restaurant, exactly as I visualized.

All this happened within about 24 hours. Surprising isn't it? This power can sometimes work real fast. Oh, you are curious to know what happened with that date? Well, nothing, because she was not the type of girl I was looking for. I rather used the power of visualization haphazardly, not thinking about how I wanted her look like, about her character, etc. I just thought about meeting a girl, a wish that came true.

Learn How to Sell Your Greatest Asset-Yourself

Learn How to Sell Your Greatest Asset-Yourself

Joe Girard, who the Guinness Book of World Records named the #1 Salesperson in the world. Mr. Girard received this title for selling the most "big ticket" items "one-at-a-time." He has written four books and presents his inspirational story to Fortune 500 clients and companies from all over the world. Question asked from him was:

Q: Can you tell about your most important experience?
"I was born in the ghettos of Detroit to a father who was worse than Hitler. He used to beat me, call me names, and tell me that I would never achieve. But the beautiful person in my life was my mother, who always fed me the spark to show me that my father was wrong. What I'm going to talk about at HBS are things that could save a lot of students a lot of time once they get out of school. Once they've read all the books on getting where they want to go, if they do it my way they'll hit the top ten times faster. Because I'm going to talk about things that will save you from taking a lot of steps and help you avoid all the problems that you're going to face. By hearing about my problems you will avoid the same problems."

Q: What is the most important part of selling?
"The name of the game is the people business. People buy people. What I'm going to talk about has been tested in the toughest business in the world, which was selling brand new cars. It was tested in the firing line. I want you to know that when you write this story that Joe Girard is not ATANA. ATANA means All Talk and No Action. I've done it. No one has even come close to my record because they won't play the game and life is a game. Regardless of what business you're in, whether you're in a professional job, doctor, or lawyer, to put it bluntly the students that do not come to hear what I have to say are going to be losers-they will lose. If they don't hear what I have to say, it's going to take them many more years to hit the top. Because I'm going to lay it all on the line and you are not going to believe it."

Q: How do you account for your success as a salesperson?
"The best learning experience that you can have is from the mistakes of others. [During my visit] I'll talk about the mistakes I made. These mistakes cost me millions and I'm going to talk about why they cost me millions. I'll discuss how to overcome adversities. This is important because I guarantee that you will hit a lot of them. Life is about becoming stronger; this is how you play the game."

"There's no place for second place. As far as I'm concerned, when you're second you are a loser. You have to strive to be the best and I'll tell you how. You must sell the world's greatest product. The world's greatest product is right in your shoes, right now. I'll teach you how to read people's faces. This will boggle your mind. You don't have to wait to hear somebody tell you what they thought about what you said. I'll show you how to read their lips, the most important part of the body. I'll show you how to read their lips like you would not believe. I'll teach you how to read their eyes, too. I'll show you how to put people in your hands and move them like a puppet. I'll show you how to get these people to love you, to like you, and to bring people to you. The greatest advertising in the world is word of mouth."

Q: How did you go about this on a daily basis?
"So how did I go about my business? The average sales person only sells four to five cars a month. How did Joe Girard average six or more retail cars every day? Did you ever hear of buying a car by appointment? With me, you had to wait from a week to ten days to see me. And people would wait because of what they had heard about me. You must do things that will get people's appetites so hungry that they'll wait a year to see you regardless of what business you're in. The name of the game is selling yourself and getting people to love you. I'm going to show you how to get people to remember your name until the day they die. And this will blow your face away."

"What I'm going to talk about is not what you get out of those books. Once you take your nose out of those books, the game starts. I'm going to teach you how to play the game the street way. If you don't play the game by the street you're going to lose. You will lose. I've made mistakes by the tons. But Joe Girard makes one mistake and he learns like you won't believe. When I finish my presentation, you'll never make another mistake in your life because mistakes are costly. They'll cost you your life and they'll cost you all your money like they cost me."

Q: Do you think your ideas relate to other fields besides car sales?
"The game is the same whether you're playing football, whether you're a lawyer, or whether you're a doctor. It's a game whether you're selling cars. People came from all over America to buy from this kid who never graduated from high school. I've learned what the street is all about. I've also learned how to love people. Watch how I love people. I'm going to let students get into my shoes and any time they make a move they aren't ever going to forget what I said. I will show you how to get people to love you. And I'll prove it. I'm in the Guinness Book of World Records for selling 1,425 cars in one year. The average sales man doesn't sell 60 to 70 cars a year. How'd I do it? I did it with love. Instead of waiting to buy a car every few years, my customers would come from all over America every single year to buy a car, just to see me. When you show love you'll get love. When you show hate you'll get hate. You get what you give."

Rich Dad Poor Dad, Cashflow Quadrant, By Robert Kiyosaki

One of the early eye openers for me is about this book of the famous authorRobert Kiyosaki entitled Rich Dad Poor Dad. This book was a huge success with millions of copies being sold worldwide.
